Victorian (1837 – 1901)
The Victorian era is synonymous with innovation, magnificence and a huge variety of styles. The vast British Empire brought in new methods of design as well as materials and influences. The dawn of the Victorian age sprang from the end of the Georgian age of elegance. This was followed by a huge eruption of wealth and grandeur which, at the end of the era, led to the stark contrast of the Arts and Crafts movement, which is still so much admired today for its simplicity and adherence to traditional craft and skills. Victorian jewellery is as varied as the time it came from; there is no one typical style or type. Rather like today, the Victorians tried their hand at anything, and the results are still our delight all these years later.
