It dates from around 1830 and features a rose cut piece of very special black glass called Vauxhall Glass. This fashionable material was made in the Vauxhall Glassworks in London from the 18th century to the mid 19th century. It was most likely sold as a souvenir for the Vauxhall Pleasure Gardens (a 12 acres park in London to walk, dine, dance and court!) Think of Bridgeton here!

Vauxhall glass was very popular at the time. There were lots of themes, not just single stones and clusters.. butterflies, snowflakes, flowers, crosses and many many more. They were usually set on a polished metal back and can have very intense colours as well as a reflective mirror like quality of glass. So it is rather special to find one with a 9ct gold back.

All our pins come with a stopper

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0373/3428/6475/products/georgian-9ct-gold-black-vauxhall-glass-tie-pin-parkin-and-gerrish-antique-and-vintage-jewellery-473266.jpg?v=1751918509
