One of the most iconic pieces of American jewellery, the iconic aquamarine and ruby Belt Buckle necklace, was designed in 1935 by Fulco di Verdura for Paul Flato. It was originally commissioned by Cole Porter for his wife Linda Lee Porter. Paul Flato is often referred to as the original “jeweler to the stars.” Born in Shiner, Texas he opened his business on 57th Street and Fifth Ave in 1928 and quickly became a part of the New York City's social circle. To understand why this was such an important breakthrough you need to understand that Americans at that time were mainly wearing European jewellery - think Cartier and Van Cleef and now they had their own jewellery designer, Flato.

Again, brooches are no longer simply the preserve of ladies - this brooch looks as good on a tie as a lapel, on a hat as much as a belt.
