1940s 18ct Gold and Platinum, Asscher Cut Sapphire and Diamond Three Stone Ring
A really pretty three stone sapphire and diamond ring made circa 1940. The sapphire is not only a really lovely mid-blue colour but it is an Asscher cut, which is a unique square emerald cut, first invented in 1902 by Joseph Asscher for diamonds. He received a patent for the cut, protecting it up until WWII.
In 1903, Joseph's son, Abraham Asscher cut the world's largest diamond at the time, the Excelsior, into ten stones. Then in 1905, the Cullinan diamond was found and, in 1908, Asscher cut it into 9 stones. Some of these diamonds are now part of the Crown Jewels.
This type of cut was extremely popular in the 1920s, and when the patent for the cut expired in 1940s, it became a popular design for other gemstones, like sapphires.
Today it is still one of the most desired gemstone cuts and this ring would make a lovely engagement ring.

If payment is not made within the agreed time frame, we will try to work with you to agree a solution, but reserve the right to refund your money (bar the deposit) and re-list the item Please contact us directly to discuss further.
